As usual all participants are encouraged to bring their musical instruments and singing voices.
Svendborg is the capital of the Archipelago south of Fyn.
There are only 7 km or 4 Nm from our rally base camp: Rantzausminde Camping to the central station of the city. This is good to know if the weather is not for sailing. Then Svenborg will offer plenty of opportunities for exciting experiences.
There are fine places for mooring our Wayfarers in or near Svendborg habour if we one day chose Svendborg town for the destination for the daysail. Read more...
is the biggest island in the Achipelago of south of Fyn, and if the weather is suitable for Wayfarer sailing there are two towns we must visit!
Ærøskøbing is the city of merchants, hence the name. (Danish: Købmand = merchant)
They traded with the goods that were sailed from other countries to the island and to the habour in Ærøskøbing.
Sailing from Rantzausminde to Ærøskøbing is approx. 11 Nm, and in moderate winds it can be reached in 2.5 hours of sailing. We have to cross open sea, the last 5 Nm and in fresh wind from NW you can the waves will be around 1m.
Marstal with its harbour is placed in the far south-east end of Ærø, approx. 14 Nm from Rantzausminde, and well protected from the Baltic's. From here it is easy to get out into the Baltic Sea
Marstal was formerly a large shipping town, with 350 resident sailing talships, which was 29% of the Danish merchant fleet.
The houses in the town are small and simple, and they were formerly inhabited by sailors and craftsmen, as the town also had a shipyard.
Today, there is not much left from the glory days apart from a large marina, but the atmosphere of a maritime town is still felt.
