Tourismen and trips:

Svendborg:

Svendborg is the capital of the Archipelago south of Fyn.

There are only 7 km or 4 Nm from our rally base camp: Rantzausminde Camping to the central station of the city. This is good to know if the weather is not for sailing. Then Svenborg will offer plenty of opportunities for exciting experiences.

There are fine places for mooring our Wayfarers in or near Svendborg habour if we one day chose Svendborg town for the destination for the daysail.  Read more...

Ærø:

is the biggest island in the Achipelago of south of Fyn, and if the weather is suitable for Wayfarer sailing  there are two towns we must visit!

Ærøskøbing:

Cosy town: Ærøskøbing

Ærøskøbing is the city of merchants, hence the name. (Danish: Købmand = merchant)

They traded with the goods that were sailed from other countries to the island and to the habour in Ærøskøbing.
Sailing from Rantzausminde to Ærøskøbing is approx. 11 Nm, and in moderate winds it can be reached in 2.5 hours of sailing. We have to cross open sea, the last 5 Nm and in fresh wind from NW you can  the waves will be around 1m.

Marstal

Houses in Marstal
Marstal Habour (1890)

Marstal with its harbour is placed in the far south-east end of Ærø, approx. 14 Nm from Rantzausminde, and well protected from the Baltic's. From here it is easy to get out into the Baltic Sea

Marstal was formerly a large shipping town, with 350 resident sailing talships, which was 29% of the Danish merchant fleet.

The houses in the town are small and simple, and they were formerly inhabited by sailors and craftsmen, as the town also had a shipyard.

Today, there is not much left from the glory days apart from a large marina, but the atmosphere of a maritime town is still felt.

Skarø

Wayfarers on sany beach at the reef of Skarø

Skarø
Skarø Is the first Island you will see, when sailing SW. It is only 2,5 Nm from our base camp.
It is a lovely little island inhabited by approx. 18 residents. Despite the low number of residents, Skarø has its own music festival and an ice cream maker selling ice cream to the whole world.  On the north coast of Skarø there is a harbor and good anchorage protected by Skarø Reef.
At the Reef we moore our Wayfarers. There is sandy beaches and good opportunities for a swim or short walks on the island.

Drejø

Pond close to the village of Drejø

Drejø
Approximately 6 Nm from our base camp at Rantzausminde and in the middle of the South Funen Archipelago lies Drejø with its approx. 70 residents. The new ferry port is located on the south coast of the island. On the north coast lies the idyllic old harbour, which today is only used by smaller boats. On the island you’ll find cafés, an inn and several farm shops.

Hjortø

The tiny habour of Hjortø

Hjortø
With only 4 residents there’s no inn, grocery store or church here Hjortø is among the islands in Denmark with the fewest inhabitants. The barely 1km2 island is very flat with a highest point of 3.5 metres. Despite this, there is beautiful nature with good bathing beaches, and the island is known for a very rare toad.
There is 4 Nm sail to the little harbour of Hjortø, and there will not be rooms for all the Wayfarer. We will go to coast West af the Habour. Take care and advance slowly, several stones, but they are easy to spot!

Avernakø

Safe anchor place at "Revkrog" of Avernakø

Avernakø
There are 7 Nm directly to Avernakø, but you must avoid the very shallowed area "Flæsk" with the very tiny island "Flæskholm". In fact you have to sail 8- 10 Nm to go to all way to the sheltered place "Revkrog" in the East end of the Island. Here can have a walk to the highst point on the island where there are a stunning view over the Archipelago!
The island covers an area of 5.9 km² Avernakø is characteristic with its elongated shape and the strongly hilly terrain. The island is approx. 8 km long and has 121 residents. Throughout history, the landscape on Avernakø has been characterized by small-scale agriculture with small fields and numerous waterholes. After the many small cattle farms disappeared, field operations were predominantly changed to grain production. Avernakø Church, was consecrated in 1542. In 1876, the church got its current form with a bell tower.
